The Greatest Commandment

Matt 22:34-40

34. Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together.

35. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question:

36. "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?"

37. Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'[b]

38. This is the first and greatest commandment.

39. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[c]

40. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Excelent post! How true it is, that we are to love the Lord our God with all our strength, and all our might!(In other words God is to take second place to NO ONE, or NOTHING in our lives, He is to always be first in all things!) The second part of that passage, is yet another hard pill for us to swallow, mush less under stand just WHO is our neighbor?
If we examin the many passages in the bible concerning loving our fellohumans, it becomes quiet clear that He was speaking of all mankind being our neighbor! Not just those that are in our immediate area; or who believe as do we,look as do we,or that are within our particulas ethnic group, but to show love towards all people ! The entire world of humans is our neighbor!

Thomas,

You are so right! God is to be #1 in our life no matter what else is important to us. HE is to always be first in all things.

A lot of good people put their families first, and then God comes second.

God wants us to love our family, and others as ourself. Not to put them above ourself in the #1 place where God should be in our lives.

Thank you so much for your comment!

God Bless You!
